Flashback Friday: "Marco Polo".

I love classical music. There is nothing more enticing than hearing the works of the great masters, preferably in grand theaters and concert halls. Yet, even listening to the undying harmonies in my own home, when the house is still and the day is approaching dusk, holds an allure at any season.
In the nineties, when I experienced lack of inspiration from the modern music, I went on exploration in the old classics. By sheer coincident, I stumbled upon an absolute gem.

Rondò Veneziano is an Italian chamber orchestra. The performers are renowned for wearing a period attire and playing original instruments in their numerous live shows. The compositions, although created with the elements of classical pieces mostly from the Baroque period, contain incorporation of modern rock-style rhythm sections.

Active for almost three decades, Rondò Veneziano have with a sense of style and taste delivered classical music in a modern manner. Even though nothing can replace the sound of the originals, their fusion of classical and contemporary music is superb.

The "Marco Polo" single below is taken from album of the same name. I remember the feeling of discovery, when I played it for the first time.
Quality never fades.

They work in a similar way as Andre Rieu, the violinist. Really nice.

Have a great weekend.

Hello Zuzana, I am not a big fan of music, but I thought I'd stop by and say hope you are keeping warm. I just read an older post about your love of horses and I am pleased to know we also have that in common. I used to have my own ponies, you have given me an idea for a new post, if I can find the old photos! Have a great weekend, Kath x

You had me at 'classical'. To me, when I want to be soothed - right down to my toes - I play classical music throughout my home. It's like velvet touching my soul. Thanks so much for sharing...

Your post are always so interesting, Z. That's a really enjoyable piece which to me, is reminiscent of the theme from the old television series All Creatures Great and Small.

Very easy on the ear. I also like baroque music, but I have to confess that I prefer the original, classical version of it. I really like most music, but not the old Svensktoppen and dansbandsmusik from Sweden! I always say, half jokingly, that that is why I left Sweden! ;-0

I agree, there is nothing like the original classics but this is an interesting combination. I have seen in concert an English ensemble called Mediva whose music is a fusion of Italian renaissance and Engish mediavel. I think you would like them.

Have a great weekend Zuzana. Stay warm and cosy with Batcat!

This music makes me think of a spring garden party!(just don't look outside my window at the falling snow!).
I had never heard of "Marco Polo" before, but it reminded me a little of a contemporary group called "Red Priest" who I have seen in concert--they concentrate on playing Vivaldi (he was the "Red Priest") on period instruments.
I like to tune into the classical music station on my radio at home or on my way to work sometimes as a change of pace, myself.

I don't know why I don't listen to more classical music. I should, as I (almost) always like it when I hear it! Though I have to admit, I'm pretty certain this particular selection was playing while I was on hold with the DMV the other day! ;)

It's very upbeat, isn't it? Reminds me of the soundtrack to something, but I can't place it. I can see why you like it.

Happy New Year, by the way!

Whenever I am stressed out, I have a recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. It never fails to refresh and revitalize me.

Your music selections are always great! =) I love all kinds of music. I really like this album.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Also, your last post was great, too! I love when I come across something or hear something that reminds me of something in my past. Like if I hear a song that reminds me of my grandmother humming it while washing the dishes. I love moments like that!

Have a great weekend! xoxo, Shelly

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts from this week. I'm fascinated by this musical group and their creative versions of classical pieces. Looks like you make the most of the hours of winter and then share what you learn with us. Thanks! I'm richer for having visited with you.

Hi Zuzana, I must say I really enjoyed that piece of music and I will have to explore a little more. I don't own a lot of classical music but I often play Vivaldi's Four Seasons which was a present from an Italian friend and I really love it. Ironically I am now after discovering that our good friend Stevie also likes it!
