Precious Adornment.

I have a particular taste in jewellery. I do not care much for silver or gold, or precious stones. I will not crave diamonds nor pearls. To me, jewellery is much more than that.
I love when it tells a story, when the style is unique, when the occasion at which it is given is an unforgettable one. I enjoy wearing vintage jewellery, that I have inherited, as well as ornaments purchased at fairs and flea markets, at second hand stores or antique shops. I am always intrigued by historical jewellery, made to look as if made from times long gone. Celtic, Native American or Viking styles have always mesmerized me and I own many of these. This doesn’t mean that on every day bases, I will not buy inexpensive oversize plastic earrings, necklaces or bracelets. I have often been complimented on the accessories I wear and many are surprised when I disclose the source or the cost. To me, it has always been about mixing quality and beauty, meaning that often I wear something I really like despite the origins or the value. Anything we tend to wear with joy or pleasure will look stunning on us. In my humble opinion, one doesn’t have to wear expensive brands from top to toe, in order to look stylish and interesting.

Very few people in my family, if any, have ever given me jewellery as gifts. I think my style is so unique (and complicated), that no one ever dares to try. However, the Irishman seems to have certainly tapped in to what I like. He keeps giving me wonderful earrings and pendants, broaches, bangles and rings, all of which have become my favourite. The ones presented here have been the lovely gifts he brought on his last visit.

I love jewelry, but only wear earrings. Sometimes I will put a necklace on, but I don't think it goes with my personality, or something! You are so beautiful and all of these things look like you. Perhaps I need a dose of your confidence!!
And a man who knows your style and gives you gifts?!
Well, that is the best accessory in life!!!

Your jewelry has personality! Beautiful pieces! Bracelets are my favorite!

I love accessories as well, and also think they are an extension of my personality and feel naked without some ind of jewelery on. Like you--I could care less for diamonds and pearls(I prefer Baltic amber)and only wear certain pieces that catch my fancy. I just bought a darling "cherry" brooch the other day at a thrift shop, and may have to do a little blogging on it, inspired once again by your blog.
Your Irishman has excellent taste and obviously "gets" you. I am sure when he sees the right piece of jewelery he immediately thinks of you and how you will effortlessly wear it in your dramatic, stylish way.
The necklace at the top looks very "Viking" to me. :-)

A fellow accessory lover!! I only wear the necklaces though, as I have a sensible ear. But as far as necklaces...I go nuts! Do not care about gold, or silver, or any other fancy gem. I love wood, seeds, native creations, bold colors...from the street hippie, or the little inexpensive store. I ear a necklace every day as an accesory, and everybody knows I'm crazy about them!

I love unusual jewellery too ... I don't own anything made from gold apart from one ring. I adore earrings and must have dozens of pairs! Craft fairs are great for picking up unusual pieces. I love the green earrings, they must look stunning on you!!. Your Irishman has excellent taste!

Nice Irishman, yes we approve!
I like your taste, they no doubt look great on you.

Re. the solar lamps, you've inspired me to get some, they look terrific! Shouldn't we bring them in at night though? Someone told me they confuse the wildlife at night - not sure if that's true though.

Lovely stuff! I share with you a lack of fascination for the precious stuff, and am more interested in something that shows creativity and uniqueness. I also enjoy not worrying about losing or damaging something expensive. :-)

gorgeous! They should tell a story...I like that very much~
I love how Frida Kahlo adorned her pieces...

I love the necklace/earring set, and I really love jade-y ones (not that I dislike the amber-y ones). I like to make earrings, but I'm not a big jewelry wearer. Most days I've just got a watch and earrings on, although I am kind of proud when the earrings I'm wearing are ones that I made.

You're a lucky girl to get such pretty gifts!

Oh My Goodness he has fantastic taste!!! And how wonderfully sentimental that he has given you the one gift that nobody else dares.

Protege, I love yours and the Irishman's taste in jewelry. I have a couple of pieces that I bought when I went to Ireland that I love. One is a pen featuring a long boat with monks in it. They were traveling the world in search of pigments for their illuminated manuscripts.

I'm staying at work late tonight so I can visit my favorite bloggers. I hope my computer gets fixed soon. I really miss my daily visits with you in Denmark.

The gifts are stunning :) Both you and The Irishman have wonderful taste! And to me these gifts look like they have meaning, an appreciation of your beauty inside and out.

Jewelry is a weakness of mine, but I've had to find jewelry that is inexpensive while still being nickel-free...this used to be almost impossible but things are looking up for us allergic ones ;)

=Julie,
right back at you - your kindness, optimism and great spirit makes you shine and glow. And I think everyone has their own style of baeuty, whether it is in simple more subtle jewellery or with big oversize "screaming" one.;)) And yes, the man knows me well.;)
Always glad when you stop by.;)xo

=Betsy,
thank you.;) And I agree, I too love bracelets and bangles, my favorite is many thin ones in metal, I love them loose and in great numbers.;)

=Tina,
you always leave the greatest comments.;) I agree with you on the amber, I love amber too. It is very popular here as it can be (with some luck) found on the west coast of Denmark, just be walking on the wide, never ending beaches after a storm.
You are right, there is some viking style to that piece actually.;))

=Diane,
you always make me laugh! I promise you that your address and birthday date will be forwarded.;)) I am glad you like the jewellery, P will be very happy to know his gifts would be appreciated by others than just me.;)) xo

=Claus,
ah, how lovely that you love necklaces! I too go sometimes through periods, when I wear a lot of long chains around my neck, although working in the lab, that is not a very sensible.;) So for me it is mostly earrings and bracelets. I love the fact that you also mention other materials such as wood and seeds, I actually own a few of such necklaces as well.;))

=Jeanne,
that is so true; I too love to go to fairs and markets; one can always find something special there. i have one ring that i absolutely adore, which I bought at a simple stand at a market in Rio. I wear it every day and I often wondered who made it;))
Tank you for the kindness comments full of warm words.;) xo

=Reasons to be Cheerful...,
glad you enjoyed the pieces here and thank you for the compliment.;)
As for the solar lamps; glad you like them! How great that you got some too.;) It is the best time now when the foliage is sparse, which means they have a chance to charge properly during the day. As for taking them in at night; I have never heard about that problem, but of course that doesn't mean that it is not true. But then again, I think wild life will get used to them; besides, the light they emit is not that strong. There is definitely nothing wrong with the wild life around here.;)))

=Keera,
thank you dear friend.;) And so right you are; that is a very good point. When Ii buy inexpensive costume jewellery I know that I do not have to worry about damaging it (or loosing) it. ;))

=Lenorenevermore,
what an interesting name.;)
Thank you for your kind words and thank you so much for stopping by.;))

=Mel,
yes, jade is a great colour, I agree. It fits us brunettes well.;)) I am amazed by the fact. I should try it. I have only made bracelets and necklaces out of beads, but no earrings.;))

=Holly,
I know you are as sentimental and romantic as me and I knew you would like this.;) He truly has a great taste, I agree. He is is just one in a million.;)
Always wonderful when you stop by dear friend.;)) xo

=steviewren,
thank you for those wonderful compliments and kind words.
I am truly sorry for the trouble you are having with your computer, I really feel for you. I appreciate that you still take your time to stop by here.;)) It means a lot.;))
I so would love to see that pen with the monks, maybe you can post a picture of it one day.;))
I hope your computer will get well soon.;)

=Beep,
thank you so much for that wonderful comment filled with kindness.;)
I can understand how troublesome it must be to have allergy against metals. Even tough most jewellery today is made without nickel, still this will limit the purchases you can make at flea markets when the labels might be missing.;)

=Shelly,
thank you dear friend.;))
There is so much beautiful jewellery in the part of the US where you live (I know as I own some that I purchased there on my travels) and I know all of it would look stunning on you, with your sultry, exotic looks. Maybe it is time to start wearing it again.;))
Always love your kind comments.;) xo

I guess the Irishman knows you very very well. She knows your unique taste a lot. I remember the packages and jewelry he sent you before. Very pretty. I only borrow my mom's collections of jewelries. And i hope one day she'll give it all to me hehe. :)

And yes, I agree with you about anything we wear with joy will make us more beautiful. Very true.

=Noelle,
that necklace you posted yesterday was stunning! I am sure one day it will be yours.
And the man, yes he knows me well, sometimes better than even I do.;)
