Late Autumn Melancholy...

The first week of November brought with it the sensation of the imminence of the approaching winter. The weather grew colder and the sun has been absent. We even experienced the fall of the first snow, which however failed to leave any cover. A strong storm swept over the country in mid week, ripping through the trees, robbing them of the last of their foliage and leaving a barren landscape behind.

The nature offers the first glimpse of autumn melancholy. The clouds are dark and low, the air is damp and still, the trees almost bare and the remains of their fallen leaves lie in heaps everywhere. There is a feeling of sad tranquility in my surroundings, however it seems not to darken my spirits. On the contrary, it fills me with calming serenity as I watch the fragile daylight slowly disappear.

I love your first picture. The colors are jewel-like, the berries like a beaded necklace.

I hope we get to experience the snow sometime ths year. I am not to sure though. It's cold here in the morning and nights, but we still get up to uppers 80's during the day. ;-)

I hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Hi Zuzana,

Your writing is art to me. I savor the words you weave and wonder how it comes so easily for you.

I have been looking forward to winter. Everything slows down, thoughts are clearer, and there is a soft beauty not found any other time of year.

As always - a beautiful post and a joy to visit you. :)

I've always found November to be a rather melancholic time of year.

I love the photo on the left of the pile of leaves. So colourful!!

Short days and long dark nights have their own fascination, I always think.....

This is a lot like what i felt when I snapped those dark pictures of my woods this morning. I felt isolated and alone but, strangely, serene and tranquil. It was good. Sometimes "dark" is not bad! C

The Mosaic is a lovely thing that you've mastered, in my opinion...but the single picture captures fall so perfectly that I have to say, I went back and took another look.

Your pics are the good part of fall - bright colors. Can imagine the melancholy, having lived in Holland, many gray and cold days!!! Even though it's mosly colder, but I prefer the snowy days!

I love this time of year in Montreal too. Especially the crisp fresh air when I leave the house in the morning.

This collage has surpassed all others - its wonderful!

So the storms are beginning to hit already then - I know how much you dislike the wind, so keep safe, but some snowflakes, however few, will be a delight. I love the first snow, probably because we don't get much of it here in this part of the UK!

Grat collage, Z. I love how those leaves in that one shot are actually purple. And the lady bug.. we had a lovely, warm and sunny day yesterday and found the lady bugs to be out in full force. The leaves here are pretty much gone now too.. just a few days after the shots I took on my current post. It's always warm and inviting over here at your place, my sweet friend. :)

I'm glad the melancholy of the season hasn't affected you yet. Winter has its purpose as well as the other seasons. Too bad we don't always find it as restful as the rest of nature does.

What a wonderful Autumnal collage! Though it must be a pain to collect all those leaves, they look almost poetic on the ground. What do you do with all those leaves Zuzana? They must make a huge pile!

=Claudia,
thank you so much - so happy you enjoyed my autumn pictures.;)
The leaves are collected and I use them to cover my spring bulbs, as a protection cover in the winter. As they decay, they keep my spring flowers warm.;) Always appreciate when you stop by.;) xo

=Jill,
I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the autumn collage so much, thank you for your kind words.;)

Melancholy is a perfect word for this time of year.
I felt a little the same way, walking the dog over the weekend and noticing sadly that fiunally all the wildflowers were gone--nothing to pick --killed off completely by the last killing frost. At least at this time of year you get to notice beauty in the exposed tree limbs and rocks.

=Tina,
I knew you would understand, as your weather is very similar. Before we know it winter is here again... Where did all the spring and summer months go, right? Didn't we just recently talk about the last of the snow...
