Flashback Friday: "I Won't Let You Down".

One of the most beautiful songs ever written, in my opinion, is "I Won't Let You Down" by the group Ph.D. It was a hit in the beginning of the 80's and I recall hearing it as it reached the top of the UK charts, while I was listening to Radio Luxembourg late at nights. It contains the most haunting and enthralling chorus, that made my thoughts travel and made my mind wander in time and space. Even today it moves something within me and the compilation brings back memories of the static in the radio signal and at all times leaves me with bittersweet feelings of almost another life that I no longer recognize, but remember so well.

Unfortunately, I had a very difficult time finding the original compilation, available for sharing, in a recording of reasonably good quality. Therefore I decided to post a cover by the famous Italian singer Zucchero. I am not a fan of covers, but I think he did this songs justice. He slowed it down and gave it more of a rock, or even blues feeling. His powerful voice and the Italian lyrics, mixed with the original chorus in English is superb. He also altered the title, which I think reads something like "All The Colours Of My Life".

Nevertheless, if you find the time, please listen to the original as well; it is worth those extra few minutes, I promise.

I have this theory that I slept through the 80s. Or that an alien kidnapped me for about a decade. Or something. I don't know at least half of the songs or artists that people mention from that time. Amnesia maybe?

When one becomes identify with one version, it doesn't matter how many covers, and how good they are, one will always prefer the first one you heard.
The title sounded familiar - and the chorus - yet not the original song, nor Zucchero's. It's because I have heard it in a dance/electronica version! I knew it. Went on a quest to look for that version I have heard. It was Phunkless' version.
It's kind of...sad, shall I say? That they fall back on hits of the past to try to have success today. Where's the imagination and originality?

I am unable to listen to this tonight as others have their music on so I'll return tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

I like the look of the book you mention in your last post too - I think I shall look for it.

I never heard of the group so I clicked on your hyperlink, “Original”. I like the original better than the remake. Certain songs have a way of transporting us back to a simpler time in our lives. Even though they can make us long for days gone by, they can also comfort us with memories from our past.

I went and listened to the original version and prefer it to the Zucchero version. I do not remember hearing this group but like it very much. It is a chorus that stays in my head.
Happy Weekend friend!

THE 80's ROCKED!!!!! I know that I have said it before but I will say it again,.....Best music decade EVER!!! I always grow attached to the origional version of a song and none of the remakes ever quite live up to it. It is similar to when I read a book and then it is made into a movie,...the movie never quite lives up to my expectations. :p

Your lovely email the other day totally made my week!! It was refreshing and wonderful to hear from you! You are so kind to me. I plan on replying very soon. (I know that you told me not to worry about it,...but it would be a pleasure to catch up with you.)

Congratulationa on your awards.:):):) You deserve awards,...many many awards. :)
