The Winter Candles.

In Scandinavia, the lack of light in November and December means that we light multitude of candles through out our homes. It creates a cosy atmosphere and candles are an essential and a very common object in every Nordic home.

Around the holidays, it is common to place candles and a multitude of candle holders in the windows as well. Today though, in order to avoid fires, we have started to place electric candles in the windows and in the unattended rooms in our houses.
Recently I purchased two rechargeable electric candles, that look very much like the real deal. I have placed them in my bedroom window, up in the attic, next to my Christmas Cactus.
The beauty lies in their design but also in their practical use; they can be charged during the day and then left on in the evening for decoration. Furthermore they will shine all through the night, acting as a sort of a nightlight.

What a fabulous idea!I love candles in my home. I have seen battery operated ones, but these rechargeable ones are a much better option. They certainly lok very pretty.

I have a candle phobia. I'm always afraid they're going to catch on fire and burn the place down. (Something that almost happened once in India!) I love how pretty they are though. :)

You are so right. I have no idea how many candles that serve us. Your idea is fantastic idea for the places where it is too dangerous to have real ones. Thanks.

Those look very real. I love the atmosphere candles create! But it's the Christmas cactus that I'm so impressed with...it's huge!

I've found myself lighting a candle more often as the days have gotten shorter as well. Your rechargeable candles look like the real thing. Someone had a great idea when they invented them.

I'm curious. What time is your sunrise and sunset now? Ours here is sun up at 6:23 today and sundown at 4:43. I'm driving home in the dark every day now. UGH!

They come up with the most clever ideas, don't they? Electric candles...who would've thought! They look lovely by the window. Thanks for sharing! *hugs*

Zuzana, if there's one thing with which I am familiar because of the Danes, it's candles! My father-in-law keeps their home well-lit all the time, but especially in the winter. I'm a bit nervous about doing that at our house with the four cats, but it does look lovely.

It looks beautiful, Zuzana, and the electric candles seem like a great idea!

Have a wonderful day,

They look very natural in the pictures... are these solar powered like the other ones that you posted earlier?
It worth having a thought at the way we are moving (should I say progressing)... Natural wax to industrial wax and now totally a simulated candle!!! I wonder what next!! :)

Your candles look wonderful Protege, they give a warm and cosy feeling. I can imagine a Scandinavian Winter's night with the snow heavy on the ground and the candles flickering in your window.

Lovely! I adore candles and you can't really tell those are electric ones!

I love candles in winter. I have fake pillar candles that plug in and also produce lovely aromas like vanilla. You don't have to worry about children or pets knocking them over.

I love candles. If my house ever caught on fire, all my candles would help keep it going. I don't light them often because I want to keep them all forever.

Nothing like candlelight and flickering firelight from the fireplace! It is part of the holidays here. I like the idea of the battery candles--no fire! A Good thing! I don'thave any yet, maybe this year. C.

you know me well, thank you.;)

=Blogaire,
you describe it like a postcard.;) Yes it is that way at times, hopefully we will get some snow this year - but for Christmas, without snow storms late in March.;)

I've always loved candles and certainly collected many more whilst we were in Sweden. I just love the way that they have lights at all the windows through the winter months, so magical.

What could be more warm or inviting to anyone than a home with candles? There is a sense of calm and anticipation when you walk in and smell candles. To see them glowing! Nice!!

A great idea. I dislike the soot left behind by some candles.. this sure would resolve that problem. And they look every bit as beautiful.

Zuzana said...

=Jill,
I hope so;) Thank you for your kind words.;) xo

=Mitr,
what a lovely custom, thank you for stopping by.;) xo

=Lynne,
I agree, they make the dark nights slightly more bearable.;)xo

=Hilary,
I so understand that, and the soot is actually dangerous too according to the news (I ignore that though and burn many real candles right now). I hope you can find these in your area.;) xo
=Michael,
you always leave the kindest comments; so right you are, I love candles too.;)
