Fragrant Neglect.

These days I spend somewhat limited time in my white house on the hill. Instead, almost every weekend I am adding miles to my little Toyota engine, as my faithful car takes me up north to a place that is increasingly becoming my new home.

Thus my terrace and garden are suffering from a certain mild neglect. The patio tiles are surrounded by weed and I have not planted any seasonal flowers since early this spring.

My potted plants are luckily all evergreens and they seem to be nevertheless thriving quiet well and have grown beyond belief. The garden is now displaying the bloom of all my fragrant bushes and shrubs, such as jasmine, caprifolium and a variety of roses.
Despite the lack of my attention, the growth proceeds undisturbed in an uncanny way.

The other morning, as I stepped outside with a cup of coffee, I had to linger there for a while, inhaling the perfumed morning air, saturated by dew and scents of June bloom.
A faint, slightly undetermined feeling encompassed my entire being, a mixture of sweet melancholy and subtle sentimental longing with a hint of excitement. My mind became aware of an approaching finale of a certain personal era, while my consciousness captured mental shots of a moment in time - one that might never ever repeat itself again....

Dear Zuzana, once again your beautiful way with words touches me. I understand what you are saying even though I may not know your exact circumstances...you have worded the bitter-sweet knowledge of coming change in such a way that I can relate. I haven't been online very much but am thinking of you and always always wishing you the very best. Good luck as you step out into the world today my friend.

A blogger friend recommended a book to me called The Five Things We Cannot Change. I have just started reading it but one of the paragraphs says this...

"Being as complex and creative as we are could not be satisfied in a world without soul-stretching givens. Shakespeare, Mozart and Einstein would not have appeared in a world in which things didn't change and end, things were fully predictable, life didn't include pain and everybody loyally loved us. That world would be superficial and ultimately "dull, flat, stale and unprofitable," as Hamlet says of his limited world." David Richo

Hello Zuzana, I have been missing for some time and paid only fleeting visits to Bloglandia. But it is so refreshing to return to find your thought provoking post (as always). And wherever life (and your little Yaris) takes you I wish you much happiness and contentment, starting with nice weekend :) xxx

You have such a way with words. Your last paragraph is beautiful but I'm not quite sure exactly what it means. I hope it's a good thing. My guess is you're moving in with the guy you're dating?! You don't have to tell me if I'm right or not.

I'm really awful about my yard and rosebushes. I'm not an outside person at all and my yard and plants don't get taken care of very well. I get the side eye from a neighbor because her yard is very well cared for.

I'm a Toyota baby, too (stick shift, of course)
There are quick glimpses to a deeper part of us evoked by a scent or a sound that bring the melancholy back if only so briefly. A part of us to refuses to totally let go or that simply remembers what once was and it no longer is.

Colleen, Kath, Birdie, laoi, Pranavam, Ash, Deborah, Brian, Elizabeth, ladyfi, Blogaire, Amelia, Claudia, Lady, Betsy, Zuzu, Margie, tony, Amanda, Laura, Angela, sprinkles, adrielle, Sandy, Rajesh, Radka, Mel, Myriam and Jill – so many beautiful comments and such a wonderful feeling to know that you understood my sentiments expressed within my words.

Indeed, we never know what the future brings, as it doesn’t belong to us and anything has the potential to unfold. However, no matter what direction the winds blow, I am afraid that this might be the last summer in the white house on the hill for me…
It is time to move on.

Thank you all for your frequent visits and always very kind words. I am so delighted to know you keep stopping by, despite my infrequent blogging habits.;)

I've missed visiting, Zuzana--and your lovely writing! So many family responsibilities, family illness, caretaking and exhaustion! How refreshing to see how you are flourishing and resting in your current happiness. We all need quietude amidst the daily chaos. So glad to hear you are in a happy relationship and are in such a good place.
Isn't summer lovely and June especially so? A little neglect won't harm anything--I think gardens going a little wild are enchanting. At least that's MY excuse! lol And I'm loving your hair--so beautiful.

Your flowers do look beautiful, and in your description, you bring to life the wonderful scents.
Isn't nature great? She proceeds onwards, regardless of whether we appreciate her beauty in the flowers to feast our eyes, the scents to feast our olfactory system, or her birdsong to feast our auditory senses.
