Last Traces...

The days have became significantly warmer and thus our snow is slowly, but surely melting. As soon as the vital spring rays hit the remains of the old, white, icy precipitation, it turns slowly into small streams of liquid, collecting in pools here and there.

The magic of the sun is reflected in all the spring plants that grow taller by each day. My very first crocus is almost in bloom, flaunting its blue crown, standing tall and majestic. So delicate, yet so strong, this first flower of spring holds my outermost admiration.

While Lady Winter packs her bags, preparing to pass the reign over to Lady Spring, there is also a slight melancholy connected to the vanishing of the snow. As its inner most layers are exposed with the last thaw, bringing back fallen autumn leaves, I recognize in it the first snow that fell some ninety days ago. That magical first snow, that brought us our white Christmas and transferred the dull, grey landscape into an enchanted fairytale.

As I relish in all the joy and renewal that is so palpable in the air with the changing of the seasons, I still pause a moment to reflect over our departing winter; a unique one and a magnificent one in every way.

Oh, that beautiful little croucus made me smile!
It's so lovely and delicate!

I love each seasonn of the year and cannot wait for spring but like you dear Zuzana I feel somewhat sad to see the snow leave.
The white beauty of the snow so often takes my breath away!

But, while the snow is still here I intend to simply enjoy it!

Such gorgeous pics!
Thanks for sharing them.

Loved this post!

Enjoy your weekend!
Oh, I send you greetings from Beautiful Moab as that's where I am for a few days.
The beauty here is incredible!

Winter is my favorite season and, when she's gone, I will miss her a lot. I live in Wisconsin, so we still have a month of potential blizzard weather. However, I've looked at next weeks temperatures and snow seems next to impossible.

Have a good weekend. :)

the crocus is such a beautiful, rich color. So refreshing after the stark, white winter. I like the idea of lady winter packing her bags and passing the seasonal torch on to lady spring. But we know she will return again.

It's nice to finally patches of color after all that white winter snow, I'll bet!

I love the idea of Lady Winter passing the reigns over to Lady Spring, just wish she'd hurry it up already! This past week was cold and windy and today we had a touch of snow. I'm ready for the warm spring weather already!

I am s jealous your crocus are peeking out. Talking about your Ladies made me think of the story The Snow Queen.

Yes, the sun has brought her warmth today. The clothes of King Winter are slowly disappearing. Time to embrace a new season. A season of fresh air, sun and growth.

Hope you had a lovely day and thank you for your beautiful post.

Once again, your sentiments mirror my own. I love the changing seasons. Spring is my favorite, but there is much I will miss about winter. I think winter is Mother Nature's way of making us slow down and take a break.
We will celebrate St.Patricks day on March 17th so be sure to give your Irishman a kiss.

You are a poet!!! Your prose is exquisite...I loved the way you described the crocus: "My very first crocus is almost in bloom, flaunting its blue crown, standing tall and majestic." And your photography, as always, is simply beautiful! ~Janine XO

Zuzana, what a lovely post. I love your pictures too. I am sending my bulbs warm sunny vibes-Come on up, it's okay! We've had 3 days of rain now. The river is swollen and green is right there ready to burst out. I feel it in the quickening of my body. I come alive again in the spring.

As I have always said: each season has its beauty. And though a long time with the same one might be overwhelming, it is inevitable to feel a certain nostalgia when we realize it is actually ending. But the joy of a new one, with its own beauties is something to look forward to...even more so if it includes beautiful sunshine!!!
enjoy your time away Zuzana!!
