Flashback Friday: "On The Beach".

I decided to end the working week on the same note as I began it; with a beach.
When I was in my teens, August meant the start of school and the long, lazy days spend on the beach were suddenly just sweet, distant memories.

There is one particular song that does manage to extend the feel of this beautiful season. "On The Beach", performed by the talented Chris Rea has all the elements one looks for in a great summer song - beautiful images, soothing voice and a pleasing melody that makes me think of white sand, crystal clear sea and warm sun. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it played on the radio, which was more than twenty years ago. Nonetheless, I find this laid back musical jewel timeless and incredibly pleasing to all the senses, even today.
Enjoy!

Wow...it has been a while since I've been able to sit and read your blog!

Sadly, I have read that in Denmark now it is kinda chilly. So I am packing more long pants than capris and sandals.

There are songs that I have no idea how I came familiar with, as they are from a time when I was very little. This song is a perfect example. I know the song -though only now I learned is sung by a Chris Rea- yet back in 1986 I turned 9, and my "music selection" did not include grown-up/sung in English music. This happens often actually, and I try very hard to think how they came to my life, and though there's no answer, I'm glad I know them.
This is a great summer song!

I'd forgotten how sensual this song is. Hadn't seen the video before so thanks for that. Now I've got "On the Beach" playing in iTunes, the full 6:50 length. :-)

I also had forgotton this one, it was stuck away somewhere gathering cobwebs in the 80's part of my brain. Brings back happy memories though, and I swear the Summers were longer and sunnier back then...

Some memories are so sweet that it deserves repeated replays.
It would have been wonderful if Life provided an "Action Replay"
Have a great weekend!

=Jacki,
I am always happy when you stop by.;) Yes, unfortunately, the summer has passed here. It happens almost always withing a matter of a few days. You might still experience some warm days though, do not loose hope. But the feeling of autumn is already here...
xo

=Betsy,
glad you liked the song.;)) xo

=Claus,
I so recognize the sentiment! This to me applies with the music from the 70's. I am so familar with lot of it, some through later remakes, some because when I grew older, I tend to come to love when they were played occasionally as "oldies" on the radio and TV. Although I really never knew exactly how I got to know about them.
Glad I coudl shed some light on this one for you.;))
Love your comments at all times.;) xo

=Polish Sense (Jessica),

=Blogaire,
I agree with you on every account, also the fact that the summers were longer. Or is it just that we are getting older and that time is relative?
Always happy when you stop by.;))

=Sumandebray,
so right you are! "Action Replay" would be great.;)) Fortunately, lovely photos in old photo albums and videos such as the one above sometimes function as an "instant reply" at least.;))

I have a compilation tape with this song on it and I have always LOVED it! If I had known that Chris Rea looks like this, I would have loved it even more! Thanks for the visuals!
