There is a wave of a music style, that has been successful in the last few years. I guess, it was initiated by the mellow, soulful, unique voice of Amy Winehouse.
Since then, many other female artist have been enjoying success with a musical "retro" sound that reminds me of the bygone eras, such as Duffy.
Even Sweden has its own cool blond, with Italian roots, whose soft voice has brought her acknowledgment and numerous awards.
Her most famous hit is the "Monday Child" (in Swedish: Måndagsbarn).
I love the sound of the Swedish language that comes to its full potential in this little piece performed by the very young Veronica Maggio.

That was fun, reading the Swedish words and trying to pick them out of the song.
Monday Child does have a retro sound. The accompaniment of the keyboard makes it sound sixtyish.
Cool! Nice, light, catchy, poppy, retro, slightly nasal like a young Kim Wilde, a little like an up-beat Lisa Ekdahl, bouncy, classic base line.... I quite liked it in other words! ;-)
I LOVE this 'new' music genre! It's so retro...reminds me of the music my folks played on their giant stereo console in the 60s and early 70s! GREAT for dancing and house cleaning!
Hope someday you and I can meet! We have such similar tastes! Good foods and music...the most important things in life!!
:)
Cool song... but you know I was laughing all the way through it... she said 'snart'... as you might remember from a recent post of mine, that is a combination of a sneeze and a fart ;) I looked it up and I know it translates to 'soon' but it cracked me up anyway ('cause, yeah, I AM an 11-year-old boy in reality ;)
Never heard a Swedish song before! Nice beat, and retro indeed. Have you heard Adele? I don't know many of her songs yet, but she has that new, soulful, unique voice you mentioned.
Cool song...I love this kind of music, too! Thanks for sharing.
xoxo, Shelly
I love finding new music to listen to, what a wonderful post. And the SMILES are all for you haha, or the fact that my friend acted like a total goofball on the sidelines to make me laugh (she was dancing/singing to "Too sexy for my Shirt!") hahahahha... :]
xx
I love the soulful sound of this music. I'll probably stalk your blog just to keep listening to it over and over. 'Cause it would be way to easy for me to go buy it on iTunes or something... duh. I never said I was smart.
I am really liking this stuff. I love the soul-ful blue-sy sound of her voice. It really makes you want to dance. Too bad I can't understand a word of it. ;)
You are right, Z, I think Amy Winehouse did open the door to so many other retro sounding singers - And I don't believe she'll ever get the credit for it, do you?
Thank you so for showcasing Swedish music - Great stuff! x
Thank you! I really like that. I wish I could understand Swedish, though I don't have to understand the words to enjoy it. That singer has a great voice. She could be right out of the 1960s.
Loved the photo of your kitty yesterday, too.
Protege: I'm back over here to say that I was so touched by the comment you left on my blog about the family cabin, I wonder if you would consider writing about yours on your blog sometime. I'd be very interested in your story, and I'd guess I'm not alone.
Just a thought..thanks friend. xo
=steviewren,
glad you liked it despite it being in Swedish. I agree with the sound; it is very 60's.;)
=swenglishexpat,
yes, there is definitely a bit of Kim Wild in there.;)) Glad you liked it and happy that you could understand the text as well.;)
=Julie,
that is so right, it also reminds me of my parents when they played music when I was child.
Meeting you would be great, I bet you are even more full of life than you come across as here.;))
=Diane,
you are so funny!! It did not occurred to me until you said it! Yes, "snart" means soon. Although the a is pronounce more like an o almost.;))I think it is good you are young inside.;))
=Claus,
never heard of Adele, but I will check it out.;)) Glad you enjoyed this, I too enjoyed the music at your place yesterday as well.;))
=Shelly,
glad you liked it!;) I love that is so different and sang in Swedish makes it somehow original.;))
=Erika,
yes, the music you share is always very original.;) Glad you enjoyed this post.;)
And those pictures yesterday were so professional! "Too sexy for your t-shirt" is about right.;)))xoxo
=blognut,
please feel free to stalk my blog as much as you like.;))) I take it as a compliment that you enjoyed the song.;)
Thank you so much for stopping by.;))
=Holly,
yes, there is something soulful to her voice. Sorry about the Swedish, maybe next time I should post a translation.;))
Glad you liked it nevertheless, my friend.;))
=Fhina,
I actually thought of you when posting this, as I remember you once commented on how much you enjoyed other kind of music than the one you get to hear in the UK.;)
I agree with the fact that Amy gets very little credit for her talent and unique style. Perhaps it will come.;))
=sallymandy,
glad you enjoyed Swedish retro music.;)) I always think it can be fun with something diferent for people that know very little of Scandinavia.;)
Glad you liked sleeping Batcat, he is always this relaxed.;)
Thank you so much for liking my somewhat depressive comment about our old cabin. However I am flattered you would find such a post interesting. I will try to compose a little piece about it; I have also been asked by Tom to write about our somewhat adventures escape from the east, so I guess I should finally do it.
Thank you so much for reminding me.;)))
Wow, this song is really nice Protege! This is my first time to listen to a Swedish song and I liked it very much! I also love the voice of Veronica Maggio. Swedish language is very soothing to listen to. thanks for sharing this one! :)
=Noelle,
glad you liked Veronica.;)) I myself love to be exposed to music from all over the world, therefore I thought this little piece might sound exotic to all of you.;)
Glad I was right.;))
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave all those lovely comments.;)))
