There is something very melancholic about the end of November. The second half of this penultimate month in a year carries a certain nostalgic feel to it. Particularly here in the cold North, where it is defined by cloudy skies, damp, misty air and a barren landscape.
By now, all the foliage is gone. The golden, copper and fiery red colours are replaced by a multitude shades of grey. As we stand between seasons, our world grows monochrome. It resembles a foggy canvas upon which bare tree branches are painted like dark brush strokes against the twilight sky.
Thus it is time for me to conclude the progressive photography of our lovely birch tree, at least for this season.
It stands now all dormant in our front yard, appearing lifeless, entering its winter sleep. What a difference a span of three months can make - one can not believe that the first and last picture below is indeed taken in the same spot. Gone is the juice green and even the copper hue. The beautiful azure heavens and platinum sunshine. All that remains is a charcoal tree drawn against a transparent anthracite background.
Unless snow will cover its branches a few weeks down the road, I will return with a new update first next year, to take you on the opposite journey through the spring and into early summer, recording the return of the beautiful leaves of our silver birch.

And so another cycle is gone and another one started.
Enjoy your day and drive safely during a misty morning.
This signals the onset of long and cold nights with misty and foggy days ahead!Enjoy Slumber n coffee!
It's such a treat to follow the cycle of your beautiful tree, Zuzana. A reminder of the cycle of life in all its manifestations.
You describe your sense of November so beautifully here. It is so different from my experience of November in Melbourne Australia where summer is on the wing and we've abandoned our stockings and boots for sandals.
I love this idea and how you presented it Zuzana! How I enjoy the changing of the seasons. Margie
The birch has become a favourite of mine since living in Sweden. I always liked it, now I love it. Fortunately, there is one in our neighbours garden. There are still some yellow leaves left on it.
Even stark, it is beautiful. You have captured the feeling of the season perfectly. It makes me melancholy and thankful that I will not go through the winter alone.

Ah - how gorgeous! Even with its bare bones, the tree is lovely in its simplicity.
it has been picked to the bones...but even now new life lies within and waits for the time after the sleep...you wont have too long to wait...smiles. spring will come.
As always, your photography is gorgeous and awe inspiring! I think trees are somewhat magical...they just keep going, changing with the elements and thriving the entire time. They enjoy each season and go with the flow...
So much like you and me.
I love how you study and admire nature and all the changes it brings.
Each season has it's own form of beauty. I really like the monochrome look of the bare tree. It seems to have much more character.
i love this! so lovely to see this time-lapse.
It's fun that you have new changes to chart through the year. Looking forward to more fine photos.
We were just back in Ohio and I prayed for Fall foliage-- but no such luck. Cold weather and tons of ran erased all the colors. I'll have to plan better for next year.
Happy holidays, jj
zuzana,
the foto of the bare tree has its own elegant beauty. there is something very powerful about appreciating the cyclical nature of things and that without seasons of rest we cannot have seasons of abundance.
peace and wishes for a blessed week dear zuzana~

Hi Zuzana, thanks for showing us the progress of your beautiful tree.
One can feel the year drawing to a close, can't one?
And yet, that leads us closer to the start of another one, and new life budding once again.
The wonders of nature!
Lovely pics.Blessings for the week ahead Zuzanna!
Your bare birch is making me want to paint again lol
Wow, just looking at these pix is an excellent reminder of how quickly things can change -- in nature and in life!

Birch trees herald the seasons with such grace. Beautiful post, my friend. I feel the same way about November. Thanks for saying it.
Beautiful shots showing the seasonal journey!
Isn't it wonderful to think how blessed we have been in this year. I feel quite grateful and wonderful.
Joy always to you, dear Zuzana,
Susan
Lovely as usual...and when we look at that deadened tree in winter only to see it bursting with life the following spring, who are we to say there is no rebirth?
Sandi
I love the way you describe nature's cycles. So nice to view the lovely tree and all its changes.
