Snow!

I guess the weather forecasts were right. This morning when I woke up and looked out of the windows, what greeted my gaze was a snow covered landscape. The first heavy blanket of the season, actually of this year, as both January and February produced very little snow, if any. The temperatures are suppose to stay below freezing for many days to come, therefore perhaps the cover will last.
Had this happened just one week later, we would have experienced a White Christmas this year, the first one in a long time.

I am sure I am not the only one who recalls that the weather was different when we were children. There was snow for Christmas. Even in Southern Sweden, those thirty years ago, my first Scandinavian Christmases were white.
Today this is more an exception than a rule. The Gulf Stream keeps the southern Scandinavian weather temperate and December is weather-wise grey, foggy and drizzly.

But, every fifteen years or so, exception defines the rule. And we are about to - perhaps - experience this exception. It is thirteen years ago that snow covered at least 90% of Denmark, the condition which defines our country covering white Christmas. There have been a few local white Christmases in our immediate past, as on average a local white Christmas occurs every six years.

There are predictions and forecast all over the net, such as the Snow Barometer, on one of the Danish news sites. It is set to 50% right now, giving us some hope that finally, this year our Christmas might perhaps be white.

Hej lucky girl, there is no snow here yet.
Hopefully it will wait until tomorrow because we planned to go to Germany this afternoon.

I remember my first snow. I was 10 then vacationing in Chicago. It's beautiful but saddened me the same time cos it's a vast of this thick white snow everywhere and no one can go out.

Well that's really a white Christmas!

The snow I remember most, is in the 70's when it was up to our knees (thats deep for England!) and I had a college job delivering the mail! I borrowed a sled from one of my "customers".

I crave snow. Snow, dang it, snow!!! Your pictures have filled me with a longing; sledging with the kids, snowball fights, igloo building which husband has to finish on his own as we all get too cold and watch him from the window, sipping our hot chocolate (mine with Bailey's or Brandy in it). ;O)

SNOW!!!

Oh, those are beautiful pictures! There's nothing more magical than waking up to a fresh blanket of snow. I love the snow that sticks to all the tree branches like this, too!

The snow has transformed your beautiful landscape into a magical place, I am reminded of the scene in Narnia when the children first emerge from the wardrobe. Enjoy! I hope your Christmas will be white.

That looks so beautiful. We get very little snow here. Once and awhile we'll get some. Not sure that I ever really remember many White Christmases.

i was just talking to a friend the other day about how we never get snow like we did when we were younger...i have serious doubts about a white christmas here...enjoy the snow today...i am jealous. smiles.

I love that first picture in particular, although they are all magical. It belongs on a Christmas card. The little lights give such a warm soft glow in comparison to the blue white of the rest of the image. Just a stunning shot.

I'm so jelaous!...the good kind of jelaous of course ;-)
That view is absolutely gorgeous! All so white, and pristine...very delicate. It must be wonderful to have a white Christmas. I suppose it is what Christmas is associated with in almost every country. Even in those where warmer weather is observed. Look at us here! hot, warm...I saw a palm tree with Christmas lights the other day, and I had to smile (might blog about it), as it was the clear image of how our tropical Christmases are :-))
have a great, white day!!!

You capture snow photos better than any I've seen. Just gorgeous. I think the snow falls more beautifully for you. ;)

I have seen snow only once Zuzana but I hvae stopped creating a stereotype of White Christmas for my geographical conditions are different.

But that will not stop me from wishing for you a White Christmas.

I wanted to share this with you Zuzana: Every time I visit your blog, its like entering into a memory of sepia tones. I don't know what memory but nevertheless a lovely memory. Thanks for that feel Zuzana.

Wish you passion and joy always,
Susan

We got a snow/rain mix all day yesterday and the weather was really nasty. But when I got up this morning and let my dogs out, I noticed most of the snow had melted away! Yay! I'm sure we haven't seen the last of it yet though.

Hope you get the white Christmas you hope for!

I love the bluish coloring of your pictures. Not sure how you did it but it's beautiful and really adds to the photos.

Well, snow is what most everyone wants for Christmas. Not me. Just gives me another reason to fall because I am a klutz. But for all those who want snow, I sure hope you get it!

Zuzana,
Ahhh yes.... beautiful soft fallen snow, a blanket of white. "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas", from Irving Berlin's "White Christmas". I think that is my all time favorite movie. At least for the holiday season. Thanks for sharing these outstanding pictures of new fallen snow. Enjoy!

Elizabeth, Leah (welcome). Denise, Kath, Helen, julochka, Julie, mom…, Betsy, stevie, Keith, Shelly, Brian, BPG, Zuzu, Claudia, Hilary, Susan, sprinkles, Doreen, Sandra, Brenda, The Bach and jeannette – thank you all for your lovely words of compliments on my photography.

Some of you pointed out the enchanted feeling and postcard like feeling to the images, you are so right. It felt like I have been transported into a fantasy location or a fairytale yesterday morning. It was a once in a life time experience and the beauty of the images is the work of nature, not me.

Thank you as always to all of you for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment; I read them all with equal excitement and all your visits mean the world to me.;)

xoxo

That is truly beautiful. No wonder they call it a winter wonderland. (It might get down between 70 and 45 here - that will be about right!)

Gorgeous photos, Zuzana, and I do hope you get your white Christmas!

The temps are so frigid here in NY, I think we may keep out snow through to Xmas.
