Rare December Sunset.

A sunny, winter Saturday ended with a beautiful, somewhat hidden sunset. December sunsets are rare, mostly as December sun is rare as well. Just before the darkness settled in over us, a cloud front arrived from the east, giving the afternoon sky a dramatic feel.

As it grew colder, within hours we received the first snow of the season. Well, maybe calling it snow would not be quiet right. Perhaps white precipitation would be more adequate.
However, the night was cold and the light powder stayed through the night, giving the landscape outside my windows a certain Holiday feel this morning.
As we celebrate the third Sunday in Advent and in Sweden the traditional St. Lucia day, we are now only ten days away from Christmas.

Zuzana,
I must look up St. Lucia Day. The first snow is always a treat especially if it reflects the sunlight. We received our first Indiana snow this week also with a mighty blizzard scale wind. However, it disappeared the same day because of the ground's warm temperatures. Hope you're having a nice day. Ladycat and I are planning a trip to Indy today to enjoy a Christmas Concert. Take care and we'll catcha later!

Your photos are always phenomenal. Enjoy the rest of the weekend with the soft thought of falling snow.

Oh, and are you wearing a wreath of candles on your head?? Be careful with that! It always seems a little dangerous to me! :)

I love that: "white precipitation".
I wish I had that view from my window too!

I love the deep blue of the sky as the sun sets. It never looks that way here. Our sunsets paint the sky mostly in pastel oranges, pinks and lavender tones.

Hey I just challenged you over on my blog. Check it out.

Your skies there are so uniquely beautiful! Perhaps it is the lack of daylight. But I find them mesmerizing.

We had quite a bit of that "white precipitation" this morning and it has turned to yucky drizzle.
I like the St. Lucia festival with all the candles and the children singing. It would be lovely to be in Denmark at this time.

Yesterday we managed to get two bottles of Jubiloeums Akvavit for Christmas. We've only tried the regular one, but this one has coriander and dill flavouring. Can't wait to open the bottle in the freezer!

Hello, Happy First Snow! Even tho I've never been a big snow person, I always did think the first snow was magical. My son is spending his first winter out of the state of Florida as he lives in Indiana now - he gets cold very easily, so it should be interesting for him. Hopefully an adventure as well!

P.S. You asked me about our temperatures. Our high has been around 83, lows in the 70s. We have periodic and temporary cool fronts where it gets down in to the 60s - then goes back up. We never know when it will be cool or for how long, when winter comes. We enjoy our few cold days because they are rare. And it is usually bright, sunny blue skies as well. Quite beautiful! Just a different type of beauty from snow beauty.

St. Lucy of Light? The blue in that sunset is something worth living just to see :)

In my neck of the woods, near the Canadian border, sun is rarely seen during the winter months. No matter where I am or what I am doing or what I am thinking or what I am feeling - if the sun does show itself, my soul begins to sing.

I've been so busy, I didn't realize it's only ten days away! (well, nine today). My goodness! The hectic days end this week though, around Wednesday, so hopefully, I will have a few days still to sit and take in and enjoy this wonderful season.

I didn't catch our sunset as I was inside at my parents house eating dinner. Afterwards, my father mentioned that there was supposed to be some shooting stars in the sky so when I went home, I looked but it was too cloudy to see.

I somehow don't think that even if I'd caught the sunset here that it would be anywhere near as beautiful as the ones in your photos!

Me, again. The high today is 86!
