Cinderella's Crown.

Some of you might recall my Cinderella Plant. That beautiful green ivy like stalk, full of thick leaves, growing out of a glass vase-like pot, which with a little imagination resembles a glass slipper.

The intriguing plant was given to me by my neighbors a few years back, and the little note accompanying it stated that "...if watered sparingly, it will bloom with a lovely pink flower..."
I watered it sparingly, but the plant never flowered for me.

Not until very recently. A few weeks back, I was amazed to suddenly find an interesting flower at the tip of the plant. The petals were closed and it looked like it was made of dark pink candy.
Within a few days the flower opened to offer the most beautiful display of shape and colour. Looking almost not alive, as if created of silk and colourful beads and sewn onto the green stalk, it was not just stunning in vision but in scent too, resembling a fragrance of sugar candy.

Cinderella finally became adorned with a crown; just like in the famous fairytale. I guess good things do comes to those who wait.

  3. That's beautiful. I have quite a few houseplants because they make it a little easier to endure winter. I'm really thinking about composting my rubber tree though. It's not looking that great where it is, but I don't have another place for it. I feel so guilty though...

  4. Oh that's a beauty! My neighbour has one in white. In my early blogging days, I posted a photo of it because they had no idea what it was called and I'd never seen anything like it before. Theirs is a fuller, hanging plant, and at this time of year it was full of these white, glassy blossoms. Someone came through and said it was a Hoya Bella. Yours is just gorgeous. I had no idea they also bloom in pink.

  6. How lovely, I have never seen one before. I have an angel wing begonia that refuses to bloom. We have had it for about 16 years and it has bloomed maybe 3 times. Still you keep hoping and once in a while you are rewarded. Thanks for sharing yours.

  15. What a fascinating plant,...and what an unusual flower. It almost looks like it is not real. How appropriate that your neighbor would give you a "cinderella" plant. :):) Have a lovely day my freind.

  17. I remember this plant! so nice it bloomed. and guess what? I have that plant at home!! The leaves are not like those of yours, but the flower is the exact same!! We know them as "wax" flower, because it does look like wax when they are about to open into that velvet pink. Hoya Carnosa is the Latin name of the one I have, from the Apocynaceae family. Maybe yours and mine are related? Mine are blooming at home right now. They're special, as my great-uncle Victor game them to my mom. The only legacy left from him. We often call it "uncle Victor's flower", instead of the sometimes complicated scientific name :-)
    have a great day!!

  21. What a beautiful plant! I've never seen one like that before. Those flowers look kind of velvety.

Are the leaves themselves or the whole plant itself looks like glass slippers? I can kind of see it in the leaves if I look closely.

To answer your question about the cute landscaper - no, I don't think anything will come of our meeting. I'm glad I met him because it was so refreshing to meet someone with the attitude toward life he has but there are many reasons it wouldn't work. Plus, I don't even know if he liked me back.
