My Perfect Breakfast.

A few years back, I received a free gift with an online purchase - six beautiful, colourful, ceramic egg holders. Very cute and very appealing, they are without a doubt a great addition to any breakfast table.
I learned only recently that the egg cup is actually a collectible item, having been used by mankind already in prehistoric times, such as the Minoan Crete.

Thus, just like the ancient man, even I truly enjoy getting a soft boiled egg for breakfast - to me it is one of life's simple pleasures. However, as I am no expert when it comes to egg boiling and being deterred by past experiences, not getting it right one single time - the cups have been sadly collecting dust on the shelves of my kitchen cabinets.

Still, one of the magical aspects of life is that it changes, when we least expect it. Therefore these days I once again enjoy the privilege of one of my favourite simple pleasures, on regular bases. The one where perfectly soft boiled eggs are served in perfect egg cups. In perfect company.
My perfect breakfast.

  1. Beautiful mosaic Zuzana! I love the colorful egg cups. Believe it or not we don't have any egg cups. I've never eaten a soft boiled egg so maybe that is the reason. I like the photo of looking down into the cracked cooked egg.

We got more snow here. Another 5 to 8 inches on top of the first five. This is the snowiest winter we have had since living here in SE PA. It's pretty but my thoughts are going to spring already.

    Hugs, Sandy

We are almost neighbors actually, I'm over in Norway myself.:)

  3. Good Morning, wonderful Zuzana :-))

I agree- a really great collage!

It sounds wonderful. I love my breakfast, too... I have to make eggs for two persons of my family- I am not perfect, too...

But those little things in every day are great- something you can looking forward to.

    A big hug- Ines♥

  5. Gorgeous egg cups. I think egg cups, and I think eggs. I think eggs and I think Gulliver's travels and the battles between the big-endians and the little-endians, those who choose to start their egg from the fat end versus those who choose to start it from the pointy end.

Whole wars can be based on such minute and insignificant differences. Ah the vagaries of humankind.

But these egg cups reconcile rather than divide, as does your blog generally.

    Thanks, Zuzana.

    Susan

My dream breakfast would be anything served by Johnny Depp, totally naked except for a little pinny to protect his modesty :-D

  12. I'm hopeless at boiling eggs too!

Those egg cups are delightful! Perhaps put a candle in one and use it as a candleholder now and then?

  13. The only time my family has hard boiled eggs is at Thanksgiving or Christmas when we make deviled eggs. I don't know why this is because I like hard boiled eggs. Perhaps its because putting an egg in its own cup feels posh and an act only suitable to the wealthy.

Your egg cups are lovely. I have ice cream cups on my shelves collecting dust. :)

  15. I too have colorful egg cups and take great pleasure in getting the perfect soft-boiled egg. The joy started in childhood; my grandfather loved soft-boiled eggs, and I whack the top off with a knife like he did (sailor style ;-) ).

  16. These egg cups certainly brighten ones day. It makes you look forward to a nice soft boiled egg to be eaten with a spoon, all proper and lady like lol. Today to actually sit down and eat a hardy breakfast is a treat. Most people forget to have breakfast and then all the other meals are all on the run.
Something is not right when you can't have a sit down meal with the whole family. lol

  20. Zuzana... I love you! I am sorry I have been off in my own world again and have had to catch up on beautiful posts and amazing insight. I have to thank you for mentioning me in your post Poems, Pendants, and Praise. That made my day. :) And,... I am very glad that you like the necklace. It is funny how true friendships spring out of something so random as a blog, isn't it? :)

Your egg cups are so cute I would have bought them just to look at them!! :):)

  23. Those egg holders are cute!

I prefer hard boiled eggs. I got some today so I could make them for salads.

That you prefer soft boiled eggs is of no surprise. I remember reading that you actually like them raw too.

  24. I adore those colorful eggcups you are showing off here, but I don't like eggs, especially soft-boiled, at all.
When I was a child, I would cry if made to eat them.

  27. I love your beautiful egg cups Zuzana, the colours are delightful. A perfect one with perfect company makes it all the more special. I have never like eating eggs unfortunately but I do enjoy simple pleasures like tasty Italian toast with butter or almond spread with delicious fresh coffee.... and these I enjoy all the more with special people.

Delight in the moments of your company and your scrumptious breakfasts my friend. xxx

Thank you for such beautiful words you leave for me on my blog Zuzana, they truly touch my heart. I also love my visit to your blog a very special place for me to come to.

  30. I love BRIGHT color around! Those egg cups are so cheerful and would bring a smile on the EARLIEST of mornings.

I am not a fan of a soft boiled egg. (I do love eggs though) May I ask...do you dip toast in it? Or simply eat it with a spoon?

  35. Ahhhhhh, yes Zuzana, the simple joy of the perfect soft boiled egg with little fingers of toast to dip inside it.

Eggs are the perfect food (as far as I'm concerned).

  36. breakfast is intimate, isn't it? it seems to me that something so simple requires a higher level of intimacy to be shared.

I have a hard time with boiled eggs too. Too bad we can't cut them open them to check them inside like we do with meats.

  37. The cups are cheery and must be a happy sight early in the morning...but I would have to say no to the egg....I hate eggs, especially runny ones!

  38. I am glad you are enjoying the perfect breakfast in perfect company. I love soft-boiled eggs, too. (My biggest fear is undercooking them, so I've had many a hard-boiled breakfast!)

So many different tastes, some of you love soft-boiled eggs, some of you don’t – some of you love eggs, some of you hate eggs.;) I have always loved soft boiled eggs, already as a child, my parents used to mix them for me in a cup and I loved them then, love them now.

And as sprinkles remember quite correctly, I even love the egg yolk raw on fresh boiled pasta.;)
Glad you love my colourful cups as well, they sure do fit my colourful home.

As always, thank you all for taking the time to stop by, your words are very much appreciated at all times.
