Days Of Wine And Roses.

They are not long, the weeping and the laughter,
Love and desire and hate:
I think they have no portion in us after
We pass the gate.
They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream.

Ernest Dowson

Summer - in my vision always arriving as a flamboyant knight - finally regained seasonal reign over the cold North, taking the throne with all the splendor of colours and light, sunshine and fragrance.

The golden time of the year has begun; it will be fleeting and evasive at best, teasing us with few magnificent days of sun and blue skies, only to bestow upon us rain and cold as soon as we let our guard down. Still, these are the days of the elusive summer, which has been anticipated and sought after, like never before. It will compel nature to grow lush and lavish and the air to become saturated with the fragrance of honeysuckle and jasmine.

I intend to spend the next few weeks in the company of the extravagant gentleman Summer and hopefully some lovely visitors as well. Thus I am taking a break and will return again sometimes later in July.

My days of wine and roses are here. And they are not long...

  9. How strange you should write about roses. I was just commenting to my own Irishman that the lanky, tired climbing rose that we cut down to the ground last year, has filled out into a sturdy bush, covered in dark pink blooms.
ENjoy your little break my lovely friend.

  11. I can't help but wonder if the Irishmen is one of your visitors. I hope so!

How coincidental that you chose to write about roses today. I went on a garden tour earlier today and got to see roses and a variety of other flowers and ponds in a decorative style. It really was quite enjoyable!

I shall miss your posts and visits but I do hope you have a wonderful time with your friends.

  45. I miss my bloggy friends in my daily life, too, even if I cannot get online to blog(as has been the case with me lately--too many hours at work and then having visitors in my house.

I am happy that you have had some happy times spent with those you love(of the human and feline form) and the photo collage is stunning! Love the red brick buildings , the rosa rugosa and the ruin on the hill(can you tell me more about that?)

Welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. I appreciate your words and thoughts and your visits and feedback mean a lot to me, even though I no longer find the time to respond to your comments - unfortunately.
However, be assured I read every single word and will let you know in one way or another, that I do.:))
