Flashback Friday (Christmas Edition): "Song For A Winter's Night".

Sarah McLachlan is one of my favorite artists. I discovered her music in the early nineties, when I heard Possession being played on the radio one day. Her music spoke to me in an unusual way and I can not recall being so influenced by any other harmonies before or since. I went ahead and purchased every single album she released to date and at one point owned and loved all the records.

"Song For A Winter's Night" is a very unusual Holiday song I would say, but I love its originality and the tranquil melancholy in the lyrics. It is full of bittersweet longing in the midst of winter, a sentiment I can so well relate to. Complemented in a delicate way by Sarah's unique voice, this is an exquisite piece in my Christmas collection.
I hope you too will enjoy this ethereal compilation.

  3. THat is a perfect song for this season.
Her voice and lyrics are so emotional-full of feeling, that when you listen, you get caught up in it. There is a certain song of her's that I can barely stand to listen to now because it reminds me of a certain bad time in my life and a loss and I used to cry along with it when I heard on my car radio...

  9. Sarah is my favourite female vocalist, and I love others, but her voice is so ethereal, haunting, visceral, among other things.
I so agree with you, Zuzana, on how you described her music.

If you visit my poetry blog, Shades of Grey, I have her version of 'River' playing. I can play 'Possession' on repeat and never tire of it. She cuts right to my soul.

    This song is lovely...
and have a lovely weekend, Zuzana~

  12. Zuzana: I first became aware of Sarah through her CD "Surfacing". My dear friend, Deni Bonet of "Last Girl on Earth" Blog fame, has performed with Sarah and she tells me that she is a very genuine soul! I completely agree with you that she is quite unique and speaks to the heart!
